what have I been up to ?

Well with the holidays rapidly approaching I've been trying to keep the shop updated, working on my handmade xmas gifts and this awesome deer head ! he's going to hang above our fireplace ! once i finish coating him entirely in magic sculpt , I'm going to then sand him smooth and paint him. I've decided to airbrush him a light blue grey and then give him maori tattoos in a dark blue then age him.
I haven't worked on a taxidermy form since the class I took with Elizabeth McGrath and I forgot how much fun it is ! I may have to do one of the sitting fawn forms next. We have this great antique chair that is really to old to be sat in. So to keep people from sitting on it I'll place the fawn or some other sitting creature in it !

One of the xmas gifts I'm working on should be finished tonight ! it's a pair of hand warmers for my step father . The pattern id from the book Weekend Knits and it's so easy ! I may just have to make a few more for friends.

his is going to be one of my most decadent pieces of jewelry yet ! Yes there is a tiny gear set into the cicada's head. Hopefully I'll list in this week.

My Mother is in town

This will be the first time she's seen our house. I'm so excited and I can't wait to show her around. Last week I started working on a bracelet to give her this xmas. I didn't think I would finish it as quickly as I have. Being such a big kid i don't think I can hold on to it for that long, so I plan on giving it to her tomorrow. I have a tiny bit more work to do on it. The cabochon was made using the shrink plastic and resin tutorial I posted a while back . I think it came out great !

finishing things

It seams that when i clean my studio I come across unfinished projects. I then feel the need to finish them. I started this bracelet after I got back from the artfest in '06 , sadly things came up as they usually do and i set it aside and forgot about it. When I found it I just had to finish it !

In other news i've been slowly getting myself prepared for xmas shopping. I've started to gather tin for more tin necklaces and casting more resin !

Projects from fiberfest

I mentioned how much fun I had but I never posted pics of my projects! First up is the Pursescape class. We made the purses from felted sweaters and embelished them with needle felting. I really loved doing this ! I plan to make more. But I think I want to make larger bags as this one is rather dainty.
The second class I took was Suspended in Time .
This is supposed to be a pendant but I tend to be rather hard on my jewelry so i think i'll use it as an ornament and maybe make more as gifts this year !
I hate to say it but I think my last class was my favorite ! We made creatures out of felted sweaters { Those things take up a lot of suitcase space !} I made Seaterthulu ! poor guy stil dosen't have any arms. Hopefully I can finish him soon.

Mold making (super simple}

What you need :
2 part silicone putty There are a tone of different brands I tend to just type in silicone putty on ebay and buy the cheapest

what you want to make a mold of, I use chandelier crystals, buttons, toys anything really

wax paper !

The silicone putty is mixed in two equal parts . So I scope out a small amount roll it into a ball and eyeball it .

Mix the two balls until you get one color . Once that is done I pinch of a small ball and gently flatten it.

Then you take your dodad and gently press it in. You don't want it to go all the way to the bottom because this could make the mold too thin or have holes .

Do not do this on a paper surface ! the putty will stick to it and will make getting the finished mold off a bit hard.

Once the putty is cured , simply pop out your dodad and tada an awesome mold. You can use the molds for all kinds of things! resin,polymerclay, paperclay..

My longest project ever !

Last Summer I attended a class {the house of dreams } by Janna Newton. I loved it but it took forever and eventually it was lost in the chaos of my studio.Recently in the on going effort to clean and organize my studio I found it. I was inspired to start again and attempt to finish it. I finally have ! it's taken me a while but here it is. I loved the search for just the right sequins, beads,trim and appliqués . It forced me to really use some of those things I've been hoarding. And thats a great thing.

I think I want to make something similar that will be one sided and framed. I just need to work out the details of how large I want to make it. Cleaning the studio has really opened my mind and given me a ton of inspiration. You know people have always said how a clean place is more conductive to work, I just never really noticed how much.
