Well I've updated the ety shop for Christmas. I've also started to list the tin shadow box necklaces ! If you mention my blog I'll send you a free gist as well .

I have a cold

And boy does it suck . I have so many things I want to do but I just can't right now.

But as promised here's a picture of my second tin collage . this one isn't finished as i think I want to add more to it .

I'm still alive

 I've been busy cleaning. I'm trying to totally re organize the studio. Being a mixed media artist sometimes makes that hard . How exactly do you go about sorting everything from beads,sewing supplies,knitting and ton of found objects ?

 i've also been working with concrete ! I'm making a large Ganesha shrine for the front yard .  The shrine is actually a test run for a few larger sculptural pieces I want to make . It's my first time making large armatures and using concrete as a sculpture medium . As it's been raining like crazy I don't have any pics . The piece is being built much like a bird bath with a large column that a large flat surface will rest atop . The whole piece will be covered in mosaic .

I've also been working with a few new tin jewelry ideas . And after our mini vacation this weekend I hope to have some pictures for you.

The whole thing was made from pieces of thin pine wood,a piece of wood filigree trim and a scrap of plastic from a package .I used the plastic as the glass !

 A friend and i also spent the day making an army of tiny nicknacs . we made lamps,candle holders . The lamps still need the glass {or in this case plastic }tubes as well as the little nob for turning up the flame .

This is the rug I've been working on now for two weeks . I still have the border to do but i think it's coming along nicely despite my inability to read a symbol chart . {Thats why the flowers are all slightly different }

I've put away the Bus as trying to work on three dollhouses was just too hard .This gives me a lot more time to focus on the two already built .

 I made a counter for the tea house ! It came out beautiful . This was my first time building a piece of furniture from scratch . for some reason my blog won't let me post it . So once i work out the details i will

Yay Fall seems to be on it's way

Just when I thought I couldn't stand anymore dry hot days , I looked up and saw the first acorn . I can't wait for fall . I always seem to have more energy creatively when it's not so darn hot outside . Maybe it's because i work outside due to the very poor lighting in my studio .
 I've also started working on a second rug. I have no idea what house this will go in. I just needed a project to work on while i try to figure out how to solve my bus window problems .
 

You see the bus kit has rounded rectangular windows and didn't come with any window casings . I want to make the inside look very gypsy wagon meets Sophie from Carnevale's bus .  here's a good pic of The bus kit

Here's my first day's progress with the rug

 As you can see it's a wee bit more complicated then the last one  and here's a shot from this morning {day 4} I'm staring to do all of the stems for the flowers . Next I do the flowers !

Tomorrow will be busy

 No matter what happens I will be spending the day cleaning the studio. The poor room looks like a bomb went off in it . It's completely the fault of having a yard sale , as I used the studio to sort through boxes .And once i's clean I can start working on some new art and some new jewelry .
  My goal is to eventually close the clayfaery etsy shop and re open with one that focuses mostly on my fine art jewelry and tin collage . I hope to get it all done by November. 

I'm also going to temporarily move the tea house upstairs as I just can't seem to figure out how I want to paint the upstairs rooms and working on three {yes three}dollhouses is getting to be a bit much . You see I have the teahouse, my first dollhouse {the orchid} and now a bus .Don't ask where they'll all go ! I still haven't figured that one out yet.

Tiny things lead to big ideas

 I was working on miniatures this week ,sitting outside when it hit me ,the reason I love working with miniatures . It forces my brain to think about problems differently . When I work with found objects  and jewelry I often ask ,how can i take this apart or how can use this . When I work with miniatures I have to look at an object what could this be a part of ? It's kinda hard to explain .

 I've also begun to learn needlepoint for no other reason then to make rugs and pillows for the dollhouse . Luckily I had most of the materials . Needlepoint is hard for me . it involves so much counting !  But I've finished one rug and I've started on a pillow .
The biggest thing I've learned i needle point is that I can't read it like a knitting chart .

Today I'll finish building a counter  for the teahouse and making a wood floor for the other house {the one not yet built } Yes I have 3 dollhouses ... it's an addiction.

At some point this weekend i'll clean the studio so I can set to work with the ideas that have been flowing due to working on the doll house .

Some times i have too many hobbies

Two weeks ago a friend and I went to the Raliegh flea Market . We found a ton of awesome things like,cast iron mermaids,an accordion, tin and the best thing yet a doll house for 5 bucks !!! this of course has prompted me to actually finish my other doll house and begin revamping this one .
 I've decided to decorate it using two of the best books ever as inspiration, Les Roulottes and the artists second book.

I love the way making and finding miniatures makes my brain solve problems in a completely different way . You have to look at common objects and see a new way to use them.
